Serge Lido speaks about his birth in Moscow; background and schooling; early dance classes; and how he came to be a photo-journalist, in Paris, and eventually publish 22 books on dance. Irène Lidova speaks about her birth in Moscow and youth in Leningrad; her education at the Sorbonne in Paris; early dance classes with [Olga] Preobrajenska; her first job, as a designer for Vu magazine; writing dance reviews, in particular of Serge Lifar; her job as artistic director of France magazine; working with Roland Petit, Jean Cocteau, Boris Kochno, Christian Berad, and Henri Sauget in the Theatre Sarah Bernhardt (renamed Theatre de la Cite by the Germans) in 1942-1944; Petit's first ballet Les forains; the formation with Petit in 1945 of the Ballets des Champs-Elysées; Petit's creating of the Ballets de Paris [Ballets de Paris de Roland Petit]; Lidova's leaving Petit and working as a press agent for Les Ballets de Marquis de Cuevas [Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas]; the formation with Milorad Mišković in 1956 of the Ballets des Etoiles de Paris; her writing of several books about Petit; Lidova tells anecdotes, including the reactions in Paris to the American Ballet Theatre's first visit in 1950, and to José Limón and Martha Graham, and the reaction in New York to Petit's work Carmen.
