Abstract:

The fifth edition of this book seeks to maintain the two primary purposes for which the book was originally written in 1934: to provide prospective teachers with a general concept of the meaning and interpretation of physical education, and to present a description of what is involved in preparation for teaching in this field. The text aims to provide sufficient basic information to stimulate the formation of the student's point of view with relation to his field of study, and makes extensive use of selected chapter references and an alphabetical bibliography as a guide for further investigation. -from Preface to the Fifth Edition.
