Abstract:

Collection documents the work of Jack Jackson ("Jaxon"), artist, illustrator, author, and historian, and reflects the popular culture of Austin, Texas, and San Francisco, California, during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Collection contains Jackson's original artwork, including sketchbooks, storyboards, and press proofs, posters and poster catalogs, underground comic books, and other counterculture periodicals and publications. There are also some correspondence, newspaper clippings regarding Jackson's work and career, photographs, and music audiotapes that include folk music recorded in Austin in the late 1960s. Of additional note are drafts and page proofs of Jackson's Los mesteños: Spanish ranching in Texas, 1721-1821.
