A nicely written story about a boy named Jake who constantly sucks on his left thumb despite his family's objections. As Jake starts Kindergarten, he soons learns that other children have their own items that they cling to when they are scared or uncertain. The writing and illustrations are well done and help to convey to children the importance of tolerance and that sometimes it is okay to suck on one's thumb to feel safe, or fall asleep at night.
