Abstract:

"In Joe Fafard, author Terrence Heath paints a candid, intimate portrait of the artist, drawing from Fafard's own words and those of his closest friends, colleagues and family to recount his life, which began in the tight-knit francophone farming community of Ste. Marthe, Saskatchewan. His fascination with art developed at a young age, but he received no formal art training until he attended Winnipeg's School of Art, where he discovered a love for sculpture. He furthered that passion in graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by the artistic influences of nearby New York." "This book is a celebration of Joe Fafard's immense and arresting body of work. Augmenting Heath's revealing narrative are images of seventy pieces of Fafard's artwork, which are featured in a travelling exhibition jointly organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the MacKenzie Art Gallery."--BOOK JACKET.
