This episode includes the following news highlights: East German border guards intercept British and American trains into Berlin; Iraq asks the U.S. for defensive weapons in the wake of Russia's control of Syria; at the United Nations, Russia demands that Britain, France and Israel pay for clearing the Suez Canal and for the cost of UN police presence; at the UN, Richard Casey calls for a strengthened Britain-U.S. alliance; Hungary asks for UN help, and President Eisenhower meets with Hungarian refugees; the October cost of living is discussed; the shipping industry suffers losses due to strikes; the Air Force is given control of intermediate-long range guided missiles, and the Army has control of short-range anti-aircraft missiles; a nonstop flight to the North Pole is made in a B-52 airplane; and Tommy Dorsey's obituary is read.
