Learning Karnataka music is difficult enough even for Indians who have the advantages of language, culture, and education in India. A Westerner who can learn and perform in a language and music that is 180 degrees away and different from his/her own environment should be respected and saluted. Higgins is a very good singer who put his heart and soul to South Indian classical music.
What makes a 'foreigner' learn the Indian divine music? Hindu philosophy states that past-life connections impel us. Something brought Higgins to India and learn well enough to perform the authentic songs rooted in Hinduism.
