Abstract:

At a press conference in front of a Broadway theater, producer/director Joseph Papp presents a report concerning the fundraising drive for Cambodian refugees, which he began a month earlier. The effort, which has raised a total of $192,841 so far from Broadway and off-Broadway theater owners, audiences and from individuals, will benefit the medical relief efforts in Cambodia of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Cambodians, Broadway actors and others participate in the conference, including a Cambodian refugee who discusses the current crisis in Cambodia; actor Michael Moriarty who reads a report from the IRC detailing the group's medical efforts in Cambodia; the father of a Cambodian refugee family who discusses his family's experiences living in the United States; composer Elizabeth Swados and four Cambodian children who sing songs; actress Liv Ullmann who reads a letter of thanks from the IRC; and the chairman of the IRC who accepts the check and thanks Papp and several others instrumental in the fundraising effort. The conference ends with closing remarks by Papp, who speaks of his love of his country and his concern for people and sings the song America the beautiful along with the audience.
