Abstract:

Architectural drawings, correspondence, photographs, clippings, postcards, newsletters, and other material mainly related to Gordon Bunshaft's projects while employed at the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill. The dates of the material span 1909-1990, and the bulk dates are 1950-1979. Most of the information regarding Bunsahft's projects is in the form of photographs or clippings. In addition to documenting his projects, the collection contains photographs and correspondence with family and friends. A portion of the collection documents the Bunshafts' residences on Manhattan and East Hampton. Bunshaft was an avid art collector and was friends with the artists Jean Dubuffet and Henry Moore. The drawings in the collection consist of sketches, rubbings and watercolors Bunshaft did while he was a Rotch Travelling Scholar, from 1935-36. These drawings are cataloged separately in RLIN VIM. Drawings that are not part of his student work include an abstract drawing, a drawing of a radio cabinet, and a drawing of a bungalow floor plan. The architectural drawings from this collection have been cataloged separately in RLIN VIM. Their RLIN ID numbers are NYDA94-F60 through NYDA94-F69. Their accession numbers are NYDA.1988.005.00090. - .00142.
