Abstract:

When Vatican Council II urged religious communities to "return to the sources of Christian life and to the original inspiration behind a given community," the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth decided to publish Kentucky Spring. Sister James Maria Spillane's biography of Mother Catherine Spalding contains inspiration not only for the members of the Community which she co-founded with Bishop J. B. M. David, but also for every other reader who is interested in the Kentucky frontier, the Church of the early nineteenth century, religious life in pioneer America, or simply in the life of a noble woman.
