Well written, but more depressing with the turn of every page. The stark differences between the characters polarized them to the point of not being believable, and it seemed that the story tried to intentionally deal with brutal issues to distract the reader.

This books exemplifies great fiction: it shares a story that will never leave you. It never feels contrived; rather it is like you are sitting with an old man and he is sharing the story of how he became who he is. At every moment it is real.
