Abstract:

An epic tale of fathers and sons, of friendship and betrayal, that takes us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the atrocities of the present day. The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy Afghan youth and the son of his father's servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption. It is also about the power of fathers over sons: their love, their sacrifices, and their lies.

Well written, but more depressing with the turn of every page. The stark differences between the characters polarized them to the point of not being believable, and it seemed that the story tried to intentionally deal with brutal issues to distract the reader.

The kite runner is at times such a horrible, tragic, story that your amazed you keep reading. My reason to keep with it was both the fascination of learning of Afganistan and the determined sprit of those living there. At the heart of this title is the age old story of redemption, passed on to the...

Disturbingly Beautiful

This books exemplifies great fiction: it shares a story that will never leave you. It never feels contrived; rather it is like you are sitting with an old man and he is sharing the story of how he became who he is. At every moment it is real.
