Abstract:

"Land use, and the planning and policy making associated with it, is very properly attracting increasing attention ... The papers presented at the Convention should prove of inestimable value to public administrators and others involved with land use and planning. Within its covers this book covers the views of valuers, geographers, economists, scientists, foresters, environmentalists, planners, administrators and representatives of many other disciplines as well, and, it is hoped, reflects the cross pollination of the views of these people. Indeed, the views expressed demonstrate the great complexity of the issues facing land use and administration. They include the impact of land tenure systems, of land uses, both rural and urban, the economic needs of farmers, foresters and others using the land for production purposes, the social needs of urban dwellers, the use of National Parks and the demands of wildlife, to name a few ... The Institute anticipates that this volume will represent and important contribution to the ongoing controversy on land use policies and that it will be of material assistance to those who must help formulate those policies." -- Inside front cover.
