Summary:
The cave at Lascaux, Dordogne, France was discovered purely by chance in 1940 by a group of young boys whose dog had fallen into a hole which led to an underground chamber. The surfaces of this cave were covered with prehistoric paintings of bison, deer, horses and cattle, racing across the walls and ceiling, some simply outlined in black, others with bright earth colors.
