Notes: A selection of 24 Chinese poems translated by orientalist Arthur Waley in the first half of the twentieth century, originally published in 170 Chinese poems (Contable and Company, 1918) and Chinese poems (Allen and Unwin, 1946). Transliteration follows the Wade-Giles romanization system.
"The poems move in basic chronological order over about 1500 years from the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) to the Sung Dynasty (AD 960-1279), although many of them do not have specific dates"--Colophon.
Limited edition of 500 copies, all numbered and signed by the artist.
Library has copy 23 signed by Ralph Kiggell.
"The book was designed and printed by Nicolas McDowall ... The paper is 250 gsm Velin Arches, the type is Elizabeth and Ralph Kiggell's wood blocks were all printed from the wood"--Colophon.
