Abstract:

Only a small number of men were ever in a position to write the secret and personal history of the Russian revolutionary movement, and of these Trotsky was one of the few privy to the inner councils and the inner thoughts of the man who beame God to Soviet Russia, Lenin. Although Lenin and Trotsky were markedly different in origin and early environment, their common impulse toward radical solutions to social problems brought them together in 1902. From then until the death of Lenin and the exile of Trotsky shortly after, they fought side by side for the common cause of revolution. This book is drawn from Trotsky's memories of these events, and his comments are those of both a historian and a personal friend of the Russian leader.
