Actor James Earl Jones discusses his life, his career on stage and screen, and his newly published memoir Voices and silences with host Les Brown. Much of the discussion focuses on Jones' childhood, when a traumatic experience caused him to retreat into silence for a long period, and then resulted in stuttering when he resumed speaking. Jones discusses overcoming his stuttering through acting, and also examines specific roles he has played. There are clips from several of Jones' film and stage appearances, including the Broadway production of August Wilson's Fences.
