This book was purchased by Meriwether Scott (as in the Lewis and Scott Expedition) for Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the son of Sacajawea. Charbonneau is the child pictured with his mother on the United States Sacajawea Dollar.

The expense report for this purchase can be found in, “Abstract of Expenditures" by Captain W. Clark as Superintendent of Indian Affairs, 1822. American State Papers, vol. 2. (1834) p. 289
