Abstract:

Letter dated June 24, 1789 from Elijah Clarke to Colonel Benjamin Cleaveland in Franklin County, Georgia. Clarke informs Cleaveland that he has recently left Augusta where it is expected that a treaty will soon be concluded with the Creeks. He notes that Creek leader Alexander McGillivray is believed to be en route with over two thousand Indians. Clarke also comments that the Creeks were dissatisfied with not having received a talk from the Americans in some time. He further remarks that horses were stolen recently from the Oconee River area, and alleges that Creeks are responsible.
