James Petigru Boyce
Boyce advises Broadus to "explain your relation to the [Religious] Herald by which you are resonsible only for what you write ... My advice is to confine yourself to this general disclaimer. A creditor has sent him a note of [William] Williams "one day after date." "I have declined to accept, but told him if he will show you the note and my letter, you and I will help him get his money about January 1st." Boyce is concerned for Mrs. Williams, "should Williams die at any time. I am determined that she will get all that the Board [of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary] gives not earned by him, and that will be all that has not been paid before his death" [Williams died Feb. 1877].
