Haydon is pleased to hear from his old friend and tells him about a frescoe he is painting. "The committee have been to see it and the doubt of John Bull's capability is over--they say so--is it not a victory? I could not sleep after the report--and they kept me out from fear. I gave my pupil Eastlake the upper hand--I complain not." Also mentions his picture of the Duke of Wellington, which he thinks is "the best I ever did."
