Abstract:

December 24, 1890, letter to John Fletcher Hurst, Methodist Bishop of Maryland and founder of the American University, regarding publication of the captivity journal of William Pote, who was taken prisoner by the French and Indians during King George's War and imprisoned in Canada.

Woodward compares Pote's account with the journals of Nehemiah How and John Norton, who had been imprisoned with Pote. He concludes that Pote's account is far more comprehensive, and recommends that Hurst edit it for publication. Hurst did edit the journal, which was published in 1896 by Dodd, Mead, & Co.
