Abstract:

In an 1808 letter James Patteson offers to pay John Cabell $30, if he cures a patient.

In letters from Liberia Diana Skipwith James sends palm oil, ginger root and copies of Africa's Luminary, requests writing paper and clothes, reports on family health, war with the natives in which her father was injured, customs of the natives and missionary efforts. Erasmus Nicholas reports on his arrival and adjustment. Lucy Skipwith writes about health, weather, farming, and family disappointments. Smith Powell writes about the crops and his school plans.
