"This first edition on Van Gelder paper consists of 925 copies.
"Mr. Prestage's version of the Letters of a Portuguese nun was originally issued in 1893, in an edition limited to 500 small and 50 large paper copies. This editio princeps comprised--in addition to Mr. Prestage's English version, introduction and bibliography--an absolutely faithful reprint of an English metrical version of 1713, of which only one copy is known to exist. The whole, exquisitely printed at the Constable press in red and black, will never be reproduced in the same form and completeness."
"The second edition revised and with introduction brought up to date--omitting the French text and the English version of 1713--came out in 1897 (London: D. Nutt), and is preferably here reprinted, as the édition définitif [sic]."
The order of the letters is changed, the 2d and 4th being interchanged.
