In a letter to Carolyn Wells, dated November 27, 1903, Carryl thanks Wells for a marked copy of "The Reader" containing compliments from Sir Herbert Stanley. In a letter to Mrs. Henry dated 1896 Carryl looks forward to a small remembrance as a reward for kind words written about the correspondent's daughter.
