Abstract:

Collection consists primarily of letters received by John F.E. Grundy, as Secretary of the Society for the Protection of British Fine Art Copyright in the Colonies; by the London art dealership of Grundy and Robinson; and by Cecil Reginald Grundy, as editor of "The Connoisseur." Most of the correspondents are British artists. Arranged alphabetically within each series.

With a letter of Sir William Blake Richmond (1915) in which he states the need for greater financial support for the arts and crafts to counter the misery and bloodshet of war. Also a letter of Sir Frank Dicksee (1927) in which he writes that he is troubled about the lot of the next generation. With a signed copy of Dicksee's 1925 discourse to the students of the Royal Academy, presented to C. Reginald Grundy.

Series I: Primarily letters from British artists, including Sir Wyke Bayliss, Joseph Farquharson, Sir Francis Seymour Haden, Edmund Blair Leighton, Alfred Parsons, Joseph B. Pratt, Sir William Blake Richmond, Marcus Stone and Jose Weiss, relating to support for, and applications for membership in, the Society.

Series II: Letters by British artists, including two from Augustus John and one by Alfred Parsons, concerning exhibitions, sales and commissions.

Series III. Assorted letters received; most of the letters are to C. Reginald Grundy as editor of "The Connoisseur." Many of the correspondents are British artists, including Sir Alfred East, Sir Edward Poynter and Robert Morley.
