Abstract:

After his mother's recent death and neglected by his father, 15-year-old Howie begins ditching school and robbing local houses. He and his friend Gary, a con man searching for a way to escape to California, break into the house of Big John, an old ex-Marine. After Big John confronts Howie about the break-in, Howie discovers the secret that binds his friend and Big John.
