Bennelong was a warrior of the Wanghal tribe of Aboriginal people who lived in the area around where Sydney stands today. When Governor Phillip sailed the First Fleet into Sydney Harbour in 1788, Bennelong's life was set to change forever. Bennelong learnt about British ways, and through him, Phillip learnt something of the Aboriginal ways. But even though they were friends, the story of the life of Bennelong ends in tragedy for him and for the Wanghal people.
