When the book was Published in 1958, there were very few kenyans who could read English language expecially those Kenyans from Kitui county where Chief kasina was an administrator. As a result, very few Kenyans read the book. The book was read more in Europe expecially in England than in kenya.
The book talks about how Chief Kasina became an administrator and how he got promoted to be a senior chief. My father Mutooni Mumbe worked as a chief and he reported to Kasina Ndoo.
In 1975 I met Chief Kasina Ndoo in his home in migwani and we had a small talk. I had no idea that years latter, i would be promoting his work through the internet.
Chief kasina brought alot of development in Kitui county. He educated his children and many of them became Kenyan deplomats and big business men and women.
The man who slashed Kasinas hands was called Munyambu. In Kamba village, Munyambu means lion.
Why did the man slashed Kasinas hands? According to eye witneses( Mutooni mumbe, my father, Kavingo wa kivite, Musyimi Wa Sila (AKA Kateru) , Kavungwa Mutooni (My mother ) and Munyambu wa Kivite, Chief Kasina had a beef with the Munyambu over unpaid work the Munyambu had done for the chief .
So Munyambu found it wise to attempt to kill the chief because he could not sue the chief by then. Since Munyambu was also Chief Kasinas carrier (Then carier cop) he had access to Chiefs gun and a sharp machette. Because Munyambu had no knowledge of how to shoot, he useda machette to attempt to kill chief Kasina Ndoo.
After slashing the chief, Munyambu thought he had Killed Kasina Ndoo and he ran to the thick bushes wityh the machette and a loaded gun. It was very risk for locals to track Munyambu because he had loaded gun and a machette.
Chief Kasina Ndoo was rushed to Kitui general hospital for treatment. The then kitui District Commissioner ordered all the eye witnessess to be arested. The district commissioner also ordered anyone in Migwani who knew how to read to be arested. About 200 people were arested from Migwani and Kyome villages. My father served 4 yrs in jail for being a witness . He was acused of not doing enough to help Kasina
As i wrote this note,Chief Kasinas family are doing great. There are elementary schools in Kitui county called Kasina Ndoo School in honor of the late chief.
As one of the few Kenyans who had acquired a wealth of knowledge of how Chief Kasina was slashed, my obligation is to white a book about "The Life of Chief Kasina Ndoo as narated to me By Mutooni Mumbe (my father) who was Chief kasinas assistant and a witness to the attempted murder of Chief kasina ndoo
I knew Chief Kasina Ndoo as my neibour and as my fathers friend. I presented Chief Kasina ndoo with a male goat as a gift from my father. I also had a cup of tea with Chief kasina when i was in elementary school
