A practical text on diagnosis and treatment of diseases, arranged in 7 chapters in the traditional manner, "head to foot."
Text in Latin.
Title and date from explicit, fol. 215r: Explicit liber medicinalis q[ui] intitulat[ur] liliu[m] medicine scr[i]ptus pro [per?] henr regis p[ro] quo d[i]c[t]u[m] orate Anno d[omi]ni 1419. inconpleto 8. die me[n]sis februarij s[cilicet] in vigi[lia] s[anc]te appolionie appolonie [corrected thus in text] ante me[r]idiem hora q[uas]i 9. d[e]o gra[tia]s. Finito libro sit laus et gl[oria]e.
Fol 1r-1v consists of an ink-ruled grid pattern with frame ruling, but not the same ruling as the texted pages; fol. 215v-216r consists of added text in scribe's hand, but smaller script, in Latin on fol. 215v and German on 216r.
A small bifolio laid in containing weather predictions, written in the same hand as the text, with first line: Anno d[omi]ni 1417.
Collation: Paper, fol i (vellum manuscript leaf) + 216 + i (vellum manuscript leaf); 12¹⁸.
Folios numbered 1-213 by the scribe. First 2 leaves and final leaf omitted from numbering.
Layout: 2 columns of 47 lines, frame ruled in ink.
Free endpages are vellum bifolios with text in gothic bookhand (texualis formata); considerable offset onto inside covers.
Script: Written in gothic cursive (cursiva libraria).
Decoration: 3-line initials in red at chapter heads; 2-line initials in red at section heads; initial strokes in red.
Origin: Written probably in Germany, 1419. German origin suggested by German notes non final leaf.
