Little House of the Prairie is probably best suited for grades 4th and up. It is very detailed and a bit sad and scary in spots. When I read this in second grade it was difficult to grasp the differences in children’s lives during the time of Laura Ingalls Wilder. As a 4th grader, I was able to understand more and not be as upset about the harshness of prairie life. This edition has some really great, fun illustrations. I recommend this book for readers who want to know how our ancestors played as children and who are interested in history. The differences between a little girl’s life then and now are phenomenal and very interesting. The only drawback was some of the words were strange to me and the way of speaking was slightly different than today, making it a bit hard to grasp at times. I highly recommend this great book!
