Tom Little lives in a national park in Northern Australia, where his father is a ranger. There are wild creatures everywhere - turtles, lizards, wallabies and dingoes and birds of all descriptions. Sadly though, much of this beauty was threatened by animals which originally had been introduced from other countries. Hordes of wild pigs, buffalo, and banteng cattle uproot the vegetation, damaging trees and trampling the lovely wetlands into ugly black mudholes. It was Tom's father's job to protect the environment, to help restore the delicate balance of nature by trying to undo the damage done to feeding and breeding areas of the native birds and animals. he often went out on patrols deep into the national park, and sometimes Tom went with him. But then one day, when Tom was at home alone, his father went out to check on some wild pigs, and he did not return. The story of Tom's search for his missing father in the national park where he works as a ranger in Arnhem Land, and his courageous confrontation with the reality of the wild.
