Set at the time of the First Crusade, this opera tells of the rivalry of two brothers for the love of the same woman. One of them, in an attempt to abduct his love and kill his brother, in error murders his father. He is exiled to the Holy Land, where, after his niece is abducted by a tyrant, he leads the attack on Jerusalem and then reveals his identity to his brother before dying, forgiven in the end.
