When Hong Kong fell to the Japanese in 1941, the Portuguese colony of Macao was left as a neutral enclave amidst Japanese-held territory. Nonetheless, John Reeves, the British Consul there remained and continued his work especially providing relief to the 9,000 refugees from Hong Kong. This book is Reeves' memoir of his extraordinary experiences. While Macao is often described as the Casablanca of the East with lots of espionage, assassination attempts, rescues of people who had escaped from the Japanese and general drama, this untold story of the World War II will be of special interest to al.
