Abstract:

The completion of the Powder River bridge is a critical project and one problem after another has slowed the work. A waterhole went bad; two hard working men got into a fight; a few other men just quit. The latest was that the Engineer had ridden into town to buy supplies and two brand new deputies had arrested him because they thought he was Scar Markheim, the outlaw. Even the most critical mind would not have thought all those mishaps were planned, but they were planned. Someone does not want the bridge built on time!
