The reluctant stowaway: In this re-edited pilot, Dr. Zachary Smith is trapped aboard the ship, now called "Jupiter 2," while programming the ship's robot to sabotage the mission. Before Don immobilizes the robot, the vessel enters hyperdrive and leaves the galaxy, becoming Lost in Space. With enemy agent Smith aboard, the Robinsons' journey (reduced to 5 1/2 years in this verson) is more hazardous than ever. It is his weight that throws the ship off course, and his sabotage that turns the robot into a destructive menace for this and the next few episodes. John Robinson, making repairs outside the ship, drifts helplessly into space in the series' first cliffhanger.
