An absorbing collection of writing in English and Gaelic (with English translation). The author is a "Man of Lewis", coming from the northernmost island of the Outer Hebrides archipelago. The Gaelic poetry in particular seems influenced by the diaspora-inspired Gaelic laments of the nineteenth century. While not being a great reader of poetry, I found the writing easy to both follow and appreciate. Though living in the Outer Hebrides helps to empathise with much of the work, anyone who has lived in, or experienced, remote communities, lands and islands, will find some echo of memories in this book.Highly recommended.
