Summary:	During the grant period several important developments pushed the laboratory closer to its long term goal of designing materials with predetermined electrooptical properties. New materials were synthesized that were highly luminescent and amenable to spectroscopic investigation. Magnetic switching of luminescence was demonstrated and the effect of external fields on excited states was quantified.
