"Two years ago, the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour began ... serious, sustained, regular coverage of the arts. We are offering here three examples of [our] approach to arts coverage."--1988 Peabody Awards entry form excerpt. [Part 1]. Several minority actors talk about their experiences with discrimination and racism within the motion picture and television industries and the racial stereotyping that occurs in the roles that they are offered. Members of the production crew of the television program Cagney & Lacey discuss their efforts to incorporate more minorities into the show and to make the roles they play more realistic. Includes footage from the show. [Part 2]. "Profile: first cousin." Profiles the life and acting career of Olympia Dukakis and her marriage to fellow actor Louis Zorich. She also discusses her political support of her cousin, Michael Dukakis. Includes footage of her Academy Award acceptance speech and her performing in the play Rose tattoo. [Part 3]. Profiles the life and musical career of opera singer Susan Davenny Wyner. She discusses the accident that ended her singing career but lead to a new career as a singing teacher and conductor of a local orchestra.
