First published in 1926, this handbook of Chinese customs by the Jesuit priest Henri Dore has nine chapters: 1. Supersititions concerning children; 2. Engagement and marriage; 3. Illness; 4. Death and funerals; 5. Inventory of a Chinese house; 6. Divinatory practices and vain observances; 7. Cults of false divinities; 8. Calendar of superstitious holidays; and 9. Superstitions peculiar to each province.
There is an introduction, an index, a table of corrigenda, and a table of correspondences of three romanization systems; pinyin, Wade, and that used by the Ecole Francaise d'Extreme-Orient.
Characters are provided for the Chinese terms.
A copy is held in the Governor Gary Locke Library, Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, Seattle, Washington State, USA.
