The preface to the 1744 edition, printed by Benjamin Franklin, attributes this work to James Logan.
"This essay was first translated and published in Philadelphia, when Dr. Franklin carried on the printing business in this city ... An edition ... was published in London, in 1778, with some alterations; this edition is published from the London edition, and from the copy preserved in Dr. Franklin's library. This edition of Dr. Franklin's work was originally intended for insertion in the edition of his works published by W. Duane [1808-1809], as will be seen by the paging, but was subsequently omitted."--p. .
