The pair began a steamy affair - but when Maria learnt of her husband's philandering, tensions between the Korps reached fever pitch. One year Joe and Tania's ill-fated romance began, Maria went missing. Days later she was discovered, left for dead in the boot of her dumped vehicle. Tania Herman was soon arrested on charge of attempted murder; before long, she implicated Joe Korp in the attack and offered her testimony against him, and a guilty plea, in exchange for a reduced sentence. All the while, Maria's condition deteriorated. Then, in yet another twist, the public Advocate ordered that all efforts to keep Maria alive be ceased, and she slowly died. On the day of her funeral, Joe Korp hanged himself in a shed in his back yard. Human frailty underpins this tale of suburban sin, in which lust and avarice collide with a murderous outcome. At once tragic and utterly bizarre, The Maria Korp Case is a compelling example of how truth can be stranger than fiction."@en ;
