Of the two I purchased and loaned to pregnant couples, neither returned to me and I know why - this book is just too good to let go. The detailed drawings of the internal environment of the infant and mother are beautiful and medically accurate, and inspire awe. The clear dividing line between the clearly explained types of massage - what is helpful and when it is most helpful, and when it is not advised - mapped along the stages of the prenancy - give one pause and further thought for how we approach labor. The images are for adults, and if you are a pregnant couple, or pregnant without your mate, this book is such an excellant guide for relieving the inevitable strain on certain parts of your body as it changes to accomodate the life within. It has a self-help guide also, which may be invaluable to one without a willing partner to perform the massage that should be done by one who cares a lot about the welfare and comfort of the mother and child.
You may find it to be a great introduction to a professional masseuse, and years after my own child-bearing, it is apparent there is an increase in professional maternity and infant masseuse certificates. This is a wonderful reference book, if you have a friend who is pregnant, also, or want to expand your professional skills and wonder if this type of serving is for you. I have to congratulate the husbands and family members who participated in the demonstrations within its thoughtfully written pages, for their equanimity in letting the medical team inside their homes to photograph the perfect positioning of the caring hands and the obvious relaxed state of the woman who would soon be holding their precious gift of life, once the babies emerged.
Hopefuly, the authors didn't stop at this wonderful production, but went on to train others in this blessing for the women who would carry children in their future.
