Abstract:

Paper 1: This two-part project included (1) a detailed study of the sand equivalent test including investigations of types and amounts of fines and washing of aggregates, (2) studies of performance characteristics of asphaltic mixtures and their relationship to the sand equivalent values of the aggregates used for these mixtures. Paper 2: 195 paving projects covering 872 miles and representing 3,000,000 tons of asphaltic pavement, which have been in service from one to 11 years, were surveyed to show the effects of age and traffic. Paper 3: Laminated resin and asphalt overlays are durable coatings under heavy vehicles and where surface textures are required.
