Abstract:

"Men in Australia are more likely to have serious health problems than women. In Australia, on average, men die six years earlier than women. There are a number of reasons for the lower status of mens health, including some biological factors, a gender-specific lack of health awareness, an unwillingness to adopt healthier lifestyle choices, greater risk-taking than women, and mens notions of masculinity. The health profession argues that many cases of heart disease and type 2 diabetes could be prevented and cancer diagnosed earlier if men had a regular health check-up. Issues for examination in this book include: life expectancy, lifecycle risks, mens cancers, male sexual health, mental health concerns, and preventive health measures aimed at men."--Provided by publisher.
