Er war verachtet und verschmahet = He was despised and rejected --
Wahrlich, er litt unsre qual = Surely, he hath borne our griefs --
Und seine wunden unsre heilung = And with his stripes are we healed --
Der herde gleich, vom hirten fern = All we like sheep have gone --
Und alle, die ihn sehen = All they that see him --
Er traute auf gott, dass der wurde = He trusded in God that he would --
Dieser hohn brach ihm das herz = Thy rebuke hath broken his heart --
Schau hin und sieh! wer kennet = Behold, and see if there be --
Er ist dahin aus dem lande = He was cut off out of the land --
Doch du liessest ihn im grabe nicht = But thou didst not leave his soul in hell --
Hoch tut euch auf und offnet = Lift up your heads, o ye gates --
Zu welchem von den engeln hat er = Unto which of the angels --
Lasst alle engel des herrn preisen = Let all the angels of God worship --
Du fuhrst zum himmel auf = Thou art gone up on high --
