Abstract:

An expressionistic vision of a struggle between management and labor in a city of the future. The rich capitalist class plays and rules from above while the workers toil below. Worker Maria urges the downtrodden to act with love instead of violence, but the Great Industrialist who controls this society hires a mad scientist to create an evil robot-Maria to incite the workers to revolt. While trying to mediate between the two classes, the industrialist's son falls in love with Maria. During the research for this study version, the original piano score was found; missing pictorial material is supplemented by text and still photos.
