Michael Swisher talks about working for Boeing in Seattle, visiting Alaska, studying maps and deciding on a place to homestead in Alaska, the road into his homestead, Ed Jarue, Ran Skaiger, clearing the land, constructing a house, growing hay, bee keeping, rental cabins on his property, other sources of income, working at the school in different jobs, keeping climate records for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, his wife retiring from teaching, marketing his honey, selling his hay to livestock owners, Sam Lightwood, Bill Etchells, Keith Murray, the Kenny Lake community hall, activities in Kenny Lake, his water source, Copper Valley Electric, community well in Kenny Lake, his farming activities throughout the year, trying to raise alfalfa, yellow-flower blossom Siberian alfalfa, lakes drying up in the area, climate in the area, equipment for haying, his amateur radio activities, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the value of the park, increased numbers of people coming into the area, growth of the school, his adopted son, and his advice to other homesteaders.
