Abstract:

Michel Foucault is widely regarded as one of the most important thinkers and writers of the 20th century. This casual videotape interview with Foucault was conducted in his hotel room during a 1981 conference at the University of Southern California. Foucault makes a comparison between French and American television and talks about the role the media, especially television, play in constructing our social ideology. The film ends with selected quotes from Foucault's political writings.
