Maximilian, of Transylvania
|Notes:||Title within ornamental border. Text begins on verso of t.p. At end of text: Datum Vailisoleti die xxiiii octobris M.D. XXII.
The original edition of Maximilian's account of Magellan's celebrated voyage. The second edition was issued at Rome, by Calvus, in November 1523, under title "Maximiliani Transylvani Caesaris a secretis epistola, de admirabili & nouissima Hispanoru in Orientem nauigatione". The priority of the present edition is established by the fact that in Cologne the new year brgan on Dec. 25, and not in March, as was supposed by those bibliographers who have given the precedence to the Roman edition.
Text in italics, except the initial letters which are in roman.
